This year is the 18th season of our Book Club, founded by Lynn Doyle. Book Club meets 6:30 p.m. – 7:30 p.m., at the Lockport Branch of the White Oak Library District located at 121 East 8th Street, 2nd Floor, North Meeting Room. All LWC members and guests are invited to participate.

October 10, 2023: Horse
An enslaved groom named Jarret and a bay foal forge a bond of understanding that will carry the horse to record-setting victories across the South. When the nation erupts in civil war, an itinerant young artist who has made his name on paintings of the racehorse takes up arms for the Union.

March 12, 2024: The Diamond Eye
Based on a true story, The Diamond Eye is a haunting novel of heroism born of desperation, of a mother who became a soldier, of a woman who found her place in the world and changed the course of history forever.

April 16, 2024: Trust
Hernan Diaz's anticipated novel Trust probes the illusion of money — and the truth. For the sake of posterity, Rask does eventually marry — an equally self-contained woman named Helen. Throughout the Roaring '20s, Rask accrues wealth and Helen finds her place as a patron of the arts. Then, comes the Crash of 1929.

May 21, 2024: Mary, Mrs. A. Lincoln
In Janis Cooke Newman's debut novel, Mary Todd Lincoln shares the story of her life in her own words. Writing from Bellevue Place asylum, she takes readers from her tempestuous childhood in a slaveholding Southern family through the years after her husband's death.
