Lockport Woman's Club Reading Buddies programs volunteers with Kindergarten and First Grade students at Walsh School for 30 minutes a week designed to literacy skills, confidence and a love for reading. These structured, one-on-one sessions focus on phonics, fluency, and comprehension through reading aloud, games, and, in some cases, arts and crafts—strengthening both academic growth and positive relationships.
We welcome volunteers to join us on as many Wednesdays as they can during the school year. Your presence brings consistency, comfort, and meaningful support to both students and teachers.
Volunteer Activities May Include:
- Reading one-on-one with a student
- Working with small groups
- Completing literacy-based activities provided by the teacher
- Encouraging students to build confidence as readers
